This course examines the inter linkages
between the economy and the environment, environmental trade-offs, and apply
economic concepts to environmental issues. It evaluate market failures
due to externalities, property rights and policy instruments for environmental
management and assesses various
environmental valuation methods and critique their applicability to policy
decisions. In addition it evaluates sustainable
development strategies by integrating economic and environmental principles.
It gives an introduction to environmental governance mechanisms
and their effectiveness at national and international levels.
